On the morning of October 14, 1890, Dwight David Eisenhower was born in a modest two-story frame house at the corner of Lamar Avenue and Day Street in Denison, Texas. Ike was the only one of David and Ida Eisenhower's seven children born in Texas. The future leader of the free world in war and peace was born in a railroad neighborhood, with the family home nestled within a few yards of three railroad lines.









 

Park Hours of Operation

mapEisenhower's Birthplace is open year round, and closed on Christmas and New Year's.

Tours are available Tuesday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Special arrangements may be made for group tours at other times. (Park is closed Mondays)

The Park

The park features the Birthplace home, visitors center, a covered pavilion, restrooms, and an education building. The park offers picnicking, limited hiking trails and landscaped grounds. The visitors center contains information and displays related to the late president’s life, such as a bronze bust of Eisenhower, historic photographs of the Denison native and the “Ike Jacket,” the brown short-waisted, tailored wood field jacket sported by the U.S. general. In addition, park visitors can view two of Eisenhower’s paintings and photographs documenting his three visits to Denison between 1946 and 1965. The center also has a bookstore and gift shop. (buildings & grounds).

Buildings Available for Community Use

The covered pavilion and the "Red Store" educational center are available for use by community members for a nominal fee.

The covered pavilion accommodates up to 50 people and consists of six large picnic tables with rest rooms and water fountains. Uses included company picnics, reunions, weddings...

The Red Store is also available for meetings and small receptions. The building which dates back to 1900, consists of one large room and one smaller meeting room and mini kitchen. The Red Store also has a small research library with material pertaining to the Eisenhower's. The library is available by appointment only. Either facility may be reserved by contacting the office at (903) 465-8908.
